Sunday was the GRAMMY's. I don't normally watch award shows, but I love Katy Perry, and I was tun
ed in to see her perform. Plus, after last week's Super Bowl backlash, I was curious to hear/ see what this platform would bring to the social media world.
I was surprisingly disappointed with the lack of social media rants. I was expecting so many more based on what I saw to be an even louder political message than GAGA's. Most of the posts I saw were expressing likes or dislikes about certain performances but no one in my circle really ranted on about the political innuendoes that were riddled throughout the show. And if you didn't watch the Grammy's the political platforms were bigger than the Grand Canyon!
So why didn't I hear the same kind of crazy conversations about offensive agendas in the music or belly fat?
Why were the Grammy's such a NON event politically when obviously so many of the artists really wanted it to be?
Maybe it was because that is what we were expecting from the Grammy's. That is what you knew you were going to get when you tuned in.
So the question for me is: Did you actually see Lady GAGA deliver a political message OR were you expecting her to and therefore saw what you wanted to see?
I like Lady GAGA and loved her Super Bowl performance. I didn't like Busta Rymes...or their Grammy performance. But my like and dislikes aren't based on their message. I'm not a big fan of the music. Political or not. I liked most of the Grammy performances, in spite of the politics.
My message this week isn't to beat a dead horse. But it is to do a few simple things.
Listen to yourself. Do you know what you like and don't like? And when you know, do you doubt or let people change your mind?
Next, do you watch, listen and see what you expect to see? Or are you able to start fresh and see things with a new perspective?
Can you stand firm in what you believe and not be persuaded to back down?
I want you to! I want you to listen to yourself and to others and when you believe in something, stand up for it respectfully.
We all deserve to stand firm, stand up and stand for what we believe in and be brave enough not to be offended or riled up when people disagree .
Clearly Beyonce doesn't like TRUMP. But that doesn't mean you can't like him and still like her.
